CellID location is often underestimated

As I looked at the location market and it’s value chain, I noticed that a) the location aggregators are often forgotten, b) cell ID location is often seen as yesterday’s technology because “ soon every phone will have GPSâ€.

Companies like LOC-AID are managing data from across the carrier networks and selling it on to developers. Seeing how difficult it is for developers to access the operators attention, let alone network … this seems to make sense.

Towards free location on all devices

GPS has been free from the start, but at the excellent Navigation & Location Europe conference in Amsterdam, the buzz was all about free access of Cell-ID location data.

Why is Cell-ID such a very sexy topic these days?
